Propelair – now with SteriTouch® antimicrobial protection

Propelair is not only considered to be the most environmentally-friendly choice for public washrooms, it is also widely regarded as the most hygienic toilet system on the market. It now features two mechanisms for improved hygiene:

New SteriTouch® antimicrobial protection
Propelair lids can now be supplied with latches featuring SteriTouch® antimicrobial protection, providing washroom users with added reassurance that they are experiencing the highest possible standards of hygiene. SteriTouch® is a market leader in the antimicrobial sector, supplying ionic silver additives which inhibit the growth of bacteria. These are effective for the lifetime of the product they have been added to, and their inclusion in the manufacture of Propelair WCs minimises the risk of cross-contamination when users close the lid prior to flushing (a requirement in the operation of the toilet, which effectively removes all waste by combining displaced air and just 1.5 litres of water to produce a high-performance flush).

Anti-Sneeze Effect
Flushing a conventional toilet creates a ‘sneeze effect’, spraying bacteria, viruses and moisture into the air and contaminating surrounding washroom surfaces. These airborne aerosols can even be drawn into ventilation systems to travel throughout the building. Propelair reduces the creation of aerosolised germs by 95%, and also removes over 99.9% of waterborne contaminants. Germs are trapped inside the unique, closable lid and then efficiently removed with the toilet’s powerful air flush. This reduces the risk of infection and results in improved washroom sanitation.

Product Applications
While toilet surfaces in well-maintained washrooms are unlikely to harbour more bacteria than many other everyday items we encounter (studies by Which? suggest that you could find up to 7 times more germs on a computer keyboard or a smartphone than a toilet seat!) the addition of antimicrobial latches will ensure that Propelair is suitable even for washrooms with the most exacting standards of hygiene, including those in healthcare settings. Propelair is already gaining traction within the healthcare sector, with installations currently in place at a number of hospitals and NHS Trusts, including the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Southend Hospital and Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust.

Propelair’s health and hygiene benefits also have the potential to lower the impact of illness on organisational productivity and associated costs, one of the reasons for its growing popularity in commercial settings; it was recently chosen to replace what were already deemed to be water-efficient units in all the washrooms at Thames Water’s headquarters in Reading and across its other sites. Many other commercial organisations are now following suit, attracted by a product that not only adds value in terms of workplace hygiene, but offers return on investment in as little as 1-3 years through the savings made on water bills.
