Propelair raises £3 million in latest funding round, confirms new cleantech innovations

Investment will fuel the global growth for its water and energy efficient toilet system with unique hygiene benefits

Propelair, the UK-based developer of what is believed to be the world’s lowest water-flush toilet system, has secured £3 million in new equity. Global impact investment firm Earth Capital led the funding round. This funding is in addition to a very successful Seedrs crowdfunding campaign, as well as investment from other investors.

In particular, the investment will assist Propelair in expanding into additional water-stressed markets across the Middle East, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Further, Propelair has confirmed it will launch new innovations thanks to the latest investment.

Most notably, Propelair is working on a smart connected toilet. With this version, the cleantech firm will roll out a “Savings-as-a Service” model alongside other product enhancements. For example, the new enhancements will include cost reductions, hygiene improvements, product range growth, premium accessories, and block detection and prevention.

Currently, Propelair’s innovative solution already saves tons of water: it uses air to propel just 1.5 litres per flush, into existing drains. This is significantly lower when compared to the 6-9 litres per flush of conventional toilets.

As well as enabling a superior, cleaner flush and massive water savings, it saves money, reduces water processing (thereby saving energy), is quick to refill and is more hygienic than a conventional toilet, reducing aerosolised germs, including COVID-19, by 95 percent.

The system has been especially designed for commercial use, so maintenance and operational costs are also significantly reduced.

To date, Propelair has installed nearly 4,800 units in the UK and South Africa. Commercial customers include service stations, shopping centres, universities, restaurants and banks.

Propelair is already saving customers an estimated 800,000,000 litres of water per year

Propelair was advised by Benjamin Catling of AC Management Associates Ltd.

David Hollander, CEO of Propelair, said:
“The Nobel Sustainability Fund®, managed by Earth Capital and Seedrs, have been exceptional partners in this raise. We have a long-standing relationship with Earth Capital. They have been very supportive and continue to work with us to create a better business.”

He added: “Seedrs have helped us raise an additional over £500k from 866 new investors, proving the appeal of the proposition. Propelair is now well-placed to take advantage of the increasing drive for sustainable and hygienic products as a result of the consequences of COVID-19.”

Avent Bezuidenhoudt, Investment Director of Earth Capital said: “The Nobel Sustainability Fund® is delighted to once again be supporting Propelair in its drive to reduce water waste, lower carbon emissions and improve hygiene.”

Avent also praised David and his team, saying that Propelair is leading the way in innovation and continuous product improvement. “This funding round will enable the further geographic expansion of the company. It will help bring the benefits of the Propelair toilet to new markets,” he added.
