By switching from 9 litres to 1.35 litres per flush, the Weskus centre now achieves an 85% reduction in water usage, equating to 5.2 million litres saved every year. This dramatic improvement helps safeguard local water resources and reduces pressure on municipal infrastructure while ensuring consistent washroom performance.

The installation now delivers R1.3 million in annual water-cost savings, providing consistently measurable value. Although the centre’s payback period is longer than the norm, at 51 months, the long-term financial benefits remain strong due to cumulative savings, reduced water tariffs risk, and improved operational efficiency. Over the lifespan of the units, the installation delivers significant financial returns.

The Western Cape’s vulnerability to water scarcity makes the environmental impact of this installation especially important. By reducing water consumption by millions of litres annually, Fortress – Weskus meaningfully lowers its carbon footprint linked to water treatment and transport. The installation supports ESG reporting, strengthens sustainability credentials, and demonstrates responsible resource management within a high-risk geography.
