Emirates GBC Membership
Through our new Emirates GBC membership, we commit to not only creating sustainable water-savings solutions but also practice sustainability in our own way of work. Although we have saved billions of litres of water by producing the world’s lowest water-flush toilet, we believe that we can do more. For this reason, we partner with our industry associates to both lead and purposefully drive environmental benefit; and our mission of saving the planet, one flush at a time!
Our Emirates GBC membership allows us to take advantage of a broad range of technical, educational and marketing benefits, helping us keep our eye on the target audience and general public that we help keep informed about the importance of environmental health, for our, and our future generations’ shared benefit.
With its eye on promoting and educating on sustainability in the built environment, a strategic partnership through membership with Emirates GBC, a non-government organisation, makes sense. Emirates GBC is also the official Green Building Council for the UAE endorsed by the World Green Building Council.
Implementing change
We are proud to state that through our UAE and South African Green Building Council membership and by retrofitting and installing new Propelair toilets across the globe, we have deepened our involvement in a movement that will change the way the world is built!
Because of the growing scarcity of drinking water across the globe, we purposefully drive our ambition of ‘being the sanitaryware business with the greatest impact on water savings’. By targeting public and commercial washrooms with a water savings solution, we attend to the area that accounts for up to 90% of water consumption in public areas. With toilets wasting almost half of this grand total, our core drive expanded to not only provide a water saving solution but one that also makes financial sense, making a Propelair installation a simple and easy decision to make.
Innovation at the core
Our innovation enables a flush that only uses 1.5lt of water, a fraction compared to the traditional option that utilizes an average of six to nine litres per flush. By replacing 9 litres of water with 120 litres of air to propel just 1.5 litres of water into existing drains, we contribute to better waste management to help create a more sustainable future and save millions of litres of water, and its cost, per annum.
Further benefits include a significantly lower carbon footprint due to the reduced processing of water. The closed lid seals the unit to channel the air and reduces airborne germs by up to 95%. The Propelair system conveniently connects to existing plumbing systems, making it easy to retrofit. It is also ideal for off-grid buildings where waste removal is costly.

A focus on hygiene
By placing emphasis on the hygiene factor or public washrooms, we have designed our low-water flush toilets to help avoid the ‘sneeze effect’. Flushing a conventional toilet creates a “sneeze effect,” spraying bacteria, viruses and moisture into the air. Scientific research in Physics of Fluids found that standard toilets produce a “massive upward transport of virus particles, with 40%–60% of particles reaching above the toilet seat, leading to large-scale virus spread” when flushed. These airborne aerosols can travel up to 2 metres away from the toilet itself, contaminating the surrounding washroom surfaces and getting drawn into ventilation systems to travel throughout the building.
Harmful bacteria can survive up to 24 hours on washroom surfaces making it a perfect breeding ground for viruses and germs to spread. By blocking the path of faecal–oral transmission, which occurs commonly in toilet usage, we are able to suppress the spread of viruses, airborne germs and thereby curb washroom infection risk. The germs are trapped inside Propelair’s unique closable lid, and then efficiently removed with its powerful air flush, creating a more hygienic and healthier washroom environment for users. A study by the Centre for Research into Environment and Health (CREH) found Propelair reduced aerosolised bacteria by 95%. The steri-touch handle also contains antimicrobial additives that help reduce germs and minimises the risk of infection.
